Widgets

In Checkbox, dashboards are composed of widgets. This guide will show you how to create and manage widgets to display information on your dashboards effectively.

Accessing Widgets

You can access widgets in two ways:

  • Direct Creation
    • Click on Add Widget in the top right-hand corner to create a new widget directly.
  • Widgets Home Page
    • Hover over the Reporting button in the top navigation bar.
    • Click on the Widgets tab to access the widgets home page and edit or create widgets there.

Creating a New Widget

  • Create a Widget

    • Click on Create New Widget.
  • Data Table

    • Every widget is powered by a data table, which provides the data for visualizations like line charts, bar charts, and pie charts.
    • Ensure the information displayed is appropriately powered by the data table.
    • Data points in visualizations can be clicked to show the underlying data table.

Example: Creating a Data Table

  • Add fields to the data table
  • Change the chart title by editing the name in the top navigation bar (e.g., "Total Volume of Work Line Chart").

Visualization Types

Checkbox supports five types of visualizations:

  • List View

    • Displays data in a tabular format.
  • Bar Chart

    • Compares different values within a field (e.g., status of matters: completed, in progress, pending response, and to do).
    • Can add another field (e.g., assignee) to compare status points by assignee.
    • Customize display options (e.g., count, x-axis, side-by-side, stacked view).
  • Line Chart

    • Plots data over time (e.g., created at as the x-axis).
    • Can stack another field (e.g., status) to show different stages of matters over time.
  • Pie Chart
    • Breaks down a single field into different segments.
    • Similar to bar charts but limited to one field.
  • Metric

    • Displays a numerical summary (e.g., count of matters created in a specific month).

Filtering and Saving Widgets

  • Filter Section

    • Narrow down the rows to display in the data table.
    • Determines the data shown in the visualization.
  • Save Widget

    • After configuring the widget, click Save Widget.
    • Head back to Dashboards and add the saved widget using the Add Widget button in the top left-hand corner.

By following these steps, you can create and customize widgets to effectively display and analyze data on your Checkbox dashboards.
