Why DocuSign integration with Checkbox?

DocuSign integration allows e-signatures to be collected digitally through DocuSign and saved on the Checkbox platform.


Who can integrate DocuSign to Checkbox?

Enabling DocuSign requires action from a DocuSign account holder and Checkbox Account Administrator. This enables DocuSign integration for all Reports the Checkbox Account Administrator has access to.

The following guide will assist you in setting up your DocuSign account to integrate with Checkbox platform.


DocuSign integration best practices

When connecting your Docusign account with Checkbox, it is best practice to connect both a Docusign Demo Integration Key and a Docusign Production Integration Key. Docusign Demo is used for testing purposes while Docusign Production is used for sending out live envelopes. 

 

How to enable the DocuSign Demo Integration Key

To enable the DocuSign Demo, the DocuSign account holder must retrieve the following from Checkbox:

  1. Redirect URI

The DocuSign account holder will then need to retrieve the following from DocuSign:

  1. RSA Keypair (Private Key)
  2. Integration Key
  3. User Account GUID

For any instructions related to retrieving from or inserting something into Checkbox please follow the instructions below.

 

How to retrieve the Redirect URI from Checkbox

Note: For the following steps, you must be a Checkbox Account Administrator to access the “Integrations” tab in Account Settings

When prompted to retrieve the Redirect URI in the DocuSign article, follow the steps below.

  1. To retrieve the URI, log into Checkbox
  2. Click onto your username in the top right corner and click “Account Settings”

  3. Go to “E-Signature” on the left panel.

How to Enable DocuSign Production Key

To enable Docusign Production, the account admin must convert a Docusign Demo Key by undergoing a ‘Go-Live Review’ process via Docusign. See instructions in this article under “To enable an existing integration key in a live production account” section.

To complete the production configuration, Checkbox Account Administrators are required to finish 20 Assessments in a Checkbox App using the Docusign Demo Key. To do this, you must:

  1. Have a Docusign Demo Key set up in Checkbox. See instructions under “Set up DocuSign Integration in Checkbox” below

  2. Create a simple App or use an existing application that uses the E-Sign block and run an Assessment 20 times. Learn more on how to customise an E-Sign block. 

Note: This is a requirement for the Go-Live Review set by DocuSign to ensure the DocuSign Demo Keys are functioning fine before converting to DocuSign Production Integration Keys.

Once you have converted a DocuSign Demo Key to a DocuSign Production Key, make sure to create another DocuSign Demo and overwrite your old demo key details.

 

Set up DocuSign Integration in Checkbox 

Note: For the following steps, you must be a Checkbox Account Administrator to access the “Integrations” tab in Account Settings

The following steps can be used for setting up the integration for both the DocuSign Demo and Docusign Production Keys on Checkbox.

  1. To complete the DocuSign integration, log into Checkbox

  2. Click onto your username in the top right corner and click “Account Settings”

  3. Go to “E-Signature” on the left panel.

  4. Select the “Demo” OR “Production” tab and paste the generated User Account GUID, Integration Key and Private Key in the respective fields

    Note: Ensure that the “Demo” tab is used to integrate the DocuSign Demo Key while the “Production” tab is used to integrate the DocuSign Production Key.

  5. Click “Save” to save all changes.

  6. Click on “Obtain Consent”. You will be redirected to Docusign for approval

  7. Log into your Docusign account and approve the consent.

    Note: The DocuSign account of the "User Account GUID" persona obtaining consent MUST be the same DocuSign account from which the DocuSign key was established within.

    For example, dana@checkbox.ai cannot obtain consent for an integration key in the account of legal@checkbox.ai. Dana will need to both (1) use the User Account GUID of the legal@checkbox.ai account and also (2) log into the DocuSign legal@checkbox.ai to obtain consent. Dana can change the "User Account GUID"
