What are pie charts?

Pie charts can be used to show percentages of a whole, and represents percentages at a set point in time. Unlike bar graphs and line graphs, pie charts do not show changes over time.

What variables are often used for pie charts?

Pie charts are made based on the data of one variable. Each segment of the pie chart will show how many assessments fit into each category of the specified variable. Therefore, exposed variables with the drop-down, radio or list type are often used. For example, in a legal triage App, the different types of request (e.g. options such as Generate a NDA, Get update on in-progress matters, Get Legal to review a contract, Submit an employee claim etc) and its corresponding frequency may want to be visually represented in a pie chart

Metavariables such as "Status" are also used to show 3 sections - one showing the proportion of ‘In Progress’ assessments, another for ‘Approved’ assessments, and the third for ‘Completed’ assessments.

Features of pie charts

  • Cluster or Limit groups shown: ow configure the Widget to show as many results as you want to display, up to 20 groups. Any further groups will be gathered into an 'Other' category, based on the sort by logic (specifically for bar and line charts). If 'None' is selected for sorting logic, then the 'Other' group will be comprised of random groups

  • Dynamic View: When the cursor is moved over a segment of the pie chart, the numerical statistics behind the section will display in a pop-up

  • Pie charts can only accept 1 dimension
