Overview
1 · How does the integration work?
When an Ironclad Workflow starts, Checkbox automatically creates a Matter that mirrors key contract data. Ironclad remains the source of truth; Checkbox stores a read-only copy for reporting and cross-team visibility.

Note: Completing, signing, or canceling the contract is done in Ironclad. Checkbox only displays the latest data and links back to Ironclad for any action.
2 · Prerequisites

3 · Connecting Ironclad to Checkbox
- Open Admin ➜ Integrations ➜ Ironclad in Checkbox. If you do not see Ironclad under integrations, it needs to be enabled for your account. Please message your customer success manager, or email support@checkbox.ai
- Click Connect Ironclad account; you’ll be redirected to Ironclad for OAuth login.
- Authorize the app with an Ironclad Admin user.
4 · Import Ironclad Workflows
Each Ironclad Workflow is connected as a Checkbox Matter Layout. The "Import" button does a point-in-time check to check for new workflows, remove old workflows, and update existing workflows.
Note: Please ensure Ironclad workflow names do not clash with existing Checkbox matter layout names. Checkbox will create a matter layout based on the Ironclad Workflow name. Checkbox matter layout names must be unique.
- In Admin ➜ Integrations ➜ Ironclad, click Import.
- Checkbox creates one Matter Layout per Ironclad workflow:
- Name – same as the workflow
- Board – the board where the matter will be created
- Adds default fields: Ironclad ID, Ironclad Status, Requester, Assignee, Contracting Cycle Time.
5 · Configuring each Ironclad Workflow in Checkbox
- Each connected Ironclad workflow creates a corresponding Checkbox Matter Layout.
- Matter View: Ironclad matters can be displayed with a mix of Ironclad fields and Checkbox fields.
6 · Integration in action
- When an Ironclad workflow is created, a corresponding matter is created in Checkbox. It will appear in the board as indicated by the configuration in Admin > Integrations > Ironclad.
- To progress the Ironclad workflow, users must go into Ironclad. A button in the top right directs users from Checkbox to Ironclad.
- Any changes made in Ironclad update the Checkbox matter. This includes:

7 · Board & Layout safeguards
- Layouts sourced from Ironclad can’t be manually archived or restored in Checkbox - do this in Ironclad instead.
- Archiving a Matter field in Checkbox only hides it; Ironclad values keep syncing in the background.

9 · Removing the integration
- Disconnect the Ironclad account in Admin ➜ Integrations.
- (Optional) Delete or archive the default board if it’s no longer needed.
Disconnecting stops new data but does not delete existing matters.
