November’s release strengthens AI-powered legal intake across Checkbox. AI Agent now supports smarter fallback responses, enabling requests to automatically create matters or start workflows when the agent can’t proceed on its own. Matter conversations initiated in Slack are now tracked end-to-end, giving legal teams full visibility after intake. These updates make hand-offs to humans clearer, reduce missed context, and keep work moving without manual follow-up.

Fallback actions and supervision

AIA fallback behaviour has been expanded beyond static responses. When the agent can’t confidently proceed, it can now automatically:

  • Create a matter
  • Start a workflow

Fallbacks are triggered when:

  • A requestor asks to speak to a human
  • When the agent has no sources or actions available to complete the request. 

We’ve also added a toggle for automatically creating a matter whenever an attorney responds in a Slack thread or email chain. The created matter will be one picked from the available create matter actions. This ensures requests are always routed appropriately instead of stalling. 

Live Slack thread tracking for matters

When a matter is created from Slack via AIA, subsequent messages between the requestor and legal team are now automatically captured and associated with the matter. This provides full conversational context after intake without manual copying or follow-up. The Matter Management bot must be added to the workspace to enable tracking.

Enhancements

  1. AIA will stop responding in Slack and email once a matter has been created, reducing noise and confusion.
  2. When enabled, AIA will ask for supporting attachments during matter creation at most once, simplifying the intake experience.
  3. Create matter actions now support multi-select fields.
  4. Emails sent to AIA now support embedded attachments using content IDs.
  5. In Slack channels and distribution lists, matters are automatically assigned to the intervening attorney when no default assignee is set.

  1. Solution version sorting by recent activity
    The solution version dropdown now sorts by last edited date instead of version state. This makes it easier to quickly find and navigate to recently updated versions.

  1. Matter intake emails now include the matter ID
    Intake emails sent during matter creation now include the matter ID in the email address. This makes it easier to identify, reference, and route matter-related communications.
